Two Untappd Badges, One Narragansett
Been a bit since I posted an episode of "Drinking Socially - Untappd's Craft Beer Podcast" which I always enjoy catching. So here's the latest episode!
Season 4, Episode 24: "Put on your flip flops and your fanciest Tommy Bahama shirt, grab some cold ones and head towards the closest body of water you can find. As we approach July 4th here in the states, we're celebrating drinking by the water and featuring two badges — We couldn't think of a better beer to do that with than the only beer Jaws - by way of eating Quint - ever drank: Narragansett's Lager! How Arkansas Breweries Stack Up On Untappd
It's a new year so I think it's the perfect time to check on Untappd and see how the Arkansas breweries are doing, right? Let's jump right in!
Not a lot of changes at the top, but quite a bit of movement in the placements after the top 8. Core did extend their lead in 1st place and both Lost Forty and Ozark are quickly closing the gap for 2nd and 3rd, but Diamond Bear has stayed locked in by a good, but shrinking margin. When I last checked (9/26/2016) Diamond Bear was +4,359 and now they're +1,730. Quite a difference.

Arkansas Uptappd Check-Ins
It's been a few months, so I thought I could update my Arkansas Untappd check-ins list.
Not a lot of changes at the top, except Lost Forty jumped over Ozark, but there's a lot of shuffling at further down. Core is building the gap between them and #2 Diamond Bear, but Lost Forty is gaining quickly on both, and as the only brewery of the 3 not available outside of Arkansas. And 501 Brewing makes the list!
I did my share by adding to a lot of folks on this list, including my first 3 check-ins for Prestronrose.
Did I miss anybody?

Arkansas Untappd Update!
I get asked for this often, but it's been awhile so I finally got off my duff and did one of these. New to the game? I basically go to Untapped and check all of the Arkansas brewery totals, then sort them. Ta-da! Not much to it, but it's some fun info to look at. It's not actual sales mind you, it's the number of check-ins on the Untappd app. It could be samplers, could be full beers, could be some brewery's fans don't like to use the app.... basically there's nothing scientific about this at all, I just enjoy seeing it and am also a sharer.
Who's new to the list? Well I added Rebel Kettle, Prestonrose Farm, Leap of Faith, Refined Ale and New Province.

Arkansas Untappd Check-Up
Well it really hasn't been too long since I did an Arkansas Untappd update (Nov 1st, 2015) but there have been some big changes to here it is! The biggest change? For the first time since I started doing this (Aug 16th, 2014) there's a change at the top. Way back then, no Arkansas brewery was over 10,000 check-ins and Diamond Bear was 3,500 in front of any other brewery in the state. Now Core leaps over them for #1, Ozark crosses the 10,000 check-in mark (the 3rd Arkansas brewery to do so) and Lost Forty has almost 1,000 check-ins for the last month.

* Diamond Bear continues hold on the top spot, but Core closed the gap a little more.
* Bike Rack moved up 1 spot past West Mountain.
* Lost Forty moved up 2 spots past Saddlebock and Apple Blossom and are now in the top 5.
* Superior Bathhouse moved past both Blue Canoe and Moody Brews.
* Lots of scrambling in the lower half for position. Bubba Brews is getting lots more check-ins and Brick Oven has picked it up since they got a few taps around central Arkansas and raised their game.
In the next edition I expect a big jump from Flyway Brewing, as hopefully they'll be getting their new space open soon, and it won't be long before Rebel Kettle makes an appearance and begins their climb. Aided a lot by yours truly of course.
Lastly, I'll be adding to all 6 Little Rock area breweries (Central Arkansas Hop District y'all!!) on Thursday with a brewery crawl: 5+ miles of walking, 6 breweries, lots of beer and fun.

To refresh you, these are just the total check-ins for the brewery, followed by their "monthly" check-ins. So let's get to it!
New adds this month: Bubba Brews (Bonnerdale), Brick Oven (Harrison), Black Apple Crossing (cidery in Springdale), Columbus House and Leap of Faith. No Rebel Kettle yet as I'm waiting on them to open the doors (hopefully this Fall!). You say "well Leap of Faith hasn't opened their doors!" and I say yes, but they're selling at Stone's Throw Brewing taproom often.

Thaw Out With An Arkansas Untappd Update!
Things are starting to thaw out in Arkansas and spring is finally just around the corner, so let's do a little end of winter Untappd update. You know the routine, I check out the brewery numbers on the Untappd for the great state of Arkansas' rocking breweries. So simple.
A few quick notes... I need to get Foster's Pint & Plate in Rogers added and also Bubba Brew's in Bonnerdale. I took Rebel Kettle out for now as they're focused on building a brewery, not making beer. But soon my friends... soon. I did add Super Bathhouse in Hot Springs this month, who began selling their own brews.

Observations?
* Lost Forty having the most monthly check-ins when they don't even have bottle or canned products on the shelves is just ridiculous. They've worked their way up half of the list already, after being open for 3 months.They just soared past Vinos and West Mountain.
* Moody Brews keeps climbing too, now with 2 bottles out and kegs all over the place. Their collaboration beer with Apple Blossom doesn't even count on this total.
* 2 of the top 3 highest monthly check-ins are from central Arkansas now, but still just 1 of the top 6 overall. Central is catching up though.

Observations?
* Lost Forty having the most monthly check-ins when they don't even have bottle or canned products on the shelves is just ridiculous. They've worked their way up half of the list already, after being open for 3 months.They just soared past Vinos and West Mountain.
* Moody Brews keeps climbing too, now with 2 bottles out and kegs all over the place. Their collaboration beer with Apple Blossom doesn't even count on this total.
* 2 of the top 3 highest monthly check-ins are from central Arkansas now, but still just 1 of the top 6 overall. Central is catching up though.

Arkansas Untappd New Year Update
It's time for that little thing I like to do once a month where I check out how the state of Arkansas is doing on the Untappd app, and things sure are getting interesting. There was a pretty good jump overall in a lot of breweries monthly check-ins. More excitement for our beer industry? Better beers? People drink more during the holidays because being with their relatives is gut-wrenching? All of the above perhaps!

And what did we learn?
* Lost Forty is soaring! After their first full month, they're all the way up to 2nd in monthly check-ins and are climbing up the overall totals like an itsy-bitsy spider on a water spout!
* Core became the 2nd Arkansas brewery to eclipse 10K total check-ins!
* 2 of the top 5 monthly leaders are central Arkansas now, so statewide things are getting more leveled out.
* Moody Brews just released their 2nd beer, so with 2 beers on the market now it'll be fun to watch their numbers. Both are big beers though, so it's no like people are going to sit around and drink a 6-pack at once (but I sure do my share). Quality over quantity for these guys.
* Apple Blossom and Lost Forty bumped Fossil Cove and Saddlebock out of the top 5 monthly check-ins. The awesome collaboration with Moody Brews shows up as their beer technically in the numbers, since it was brewed there.
Great numbers overall, but Arkansas still has a long way to go. Here's some numbers for the sake of comparison. These are a few of my favorite near-by breweries:
Mother's Brewing (Springfield, MO) - 73,388 (2,925)
Coop Ale Works (Oklahoma City, OK) - 28,068 (1,284)
Marshall Brewing (Tulsa, OK) - 26,905 (1,254)
Those are just a few regional favorites. If you get into national powers, like let's say Sixpoint Brewery launching here this week...
Sixpoint Brewery (Brooklyn, NY) - 559,589 (15,074 in a freakin' month!)
So you can see we've still got a ways to go to run with the big dogs, but the Arkansas dogs are barking. Feed 'em!!

Let's Check Arkansas Untappd!
So much going on in the beer world in our wonderful state lately, I think it's a good time to do my usual check-in on Untappd's numbers. I've added Lost Forty Brewing, which officially launched less than 1 week ago (and are BOOMING). I've also added the monthly entry in parenthesis, which seems to be the number of check-ins over the last month. I can't really find the exact definition of it, but that adds up I believe.

* Once again, 4 of the top 5 monthly check-in leaders are in NWA, but I think Lost Forty will be changing that when they get a full month.
* Some people up in Big Flat started checking in at Gravity Brew Works! Awesome. They more than doubled their check-in total.
* Moody Brews will be getting their 2nd beer out around Christmas, watch their numbers jump.
* Check-ins are going to be pretty slow for Rebel Kettle for the next 6 months while they work on getting their doors open, but expect an explosion this Summer. Led by yours truly.
* I'm hoping I'll be adding Noble Crossing Cider House, Spa City Brewing and Superior Bathhouse to the list soon.

Memphis Untappd
I was planning on doing an update to my Arkansas Uptappd posts this morning, but then decided I wanted to wait until Lost Forty Brewing officially launches this coming week so I can include their numbers and see how their first week goes on my favorite beer logging site. But since I was already in the mood I figured what the heck, I'll do something a little different and visit Memphis' excellent beer scene numbers on Untappd.
Only a 2 hour drive (when I-40 is actually moving) from Little Rock, I make a lot of trips to Memphis for one reason or another, but usually just to hang out and enjoy their great restaurant and music scene. Lately though their beer scene has made the trips even more enjoyable, not just from the great selection of beer available there which we don't have (Dogfish Head, Stone and Yazoo to name just a few) but from their recently booming local breweries.
Ghost River has been around for a while over there, but in the last few years 3 new craft breweries have popped up. No visit is complete unless I hit one of their local pubs like The Flying Saucer, The Growler or Bar Dog to get some drafts or hit Cash Saver to reload my Memphis shelf of the beer fridge.
Let's see how the Untappd world looks for their breweries as of today:
Wiseacre Brewing Company - 13,664 (1,302 monthly)
Ghost River Brewing - 9,312 (504 monthly)
Memphis Made Brewing Company - 4,957 (460 monthly)
High Cotton Brewing Company - 4,372 (242 monthly)
The first thing I noticed was Wiseacre already has more check-ins than Arkansas' leader Diamond Bear (11,839). Ghost River is just about to bust the 10,000 mark too. Overall having over 2,000 check-ins on local beers average on the month is a pretty good indicator of how their scene has taken off.
Glancing back through my Untappd check-ins from these breweries, here are a few of the beers I've ranked the highest from the city where Marc Cohn walked (with his feet 10 feet off of Beale):
* Memphis Made Soulful Ginger
* Wiseacre Ananda IPA
* Wiseacre Unicornicopia
* Memphis Made Plaid Attack
* High Cotton Belgian IPA

Arkansas Untappd Update

The bad news? Well, we've dropped 1, Tanglewood Branch, who closed recently. The good news? I've added Bike Rack Brewing, Rebel Kettle and Blue Canoe. Oh, I also dropped Refined Ales, well, just because. I'll be adding Lost 40 next time as they should be open.

So what did we learn?
* Core continues to have the most check-ins, by a large margin.
* Moody Brews nearly doubled Vinos check-ins for the period.
* Rebel Kettle debuted the highest of my new additions, mostly due to festival check-ins.
* Apple Blossom benefited on check-ins from getting some tap handles in central Arkansas. (I did my part!)
* Core Brewing might be the 2nd Arkansas brewery to crack 10,000 by the end of the year.
* 5 of the top 6 are still Northwest Arkansas breweries.
* Stone's Throw should be jumping over Vino's in the next update for #7. West Mountain may not be far behind.
That's a solid amount for Arkansas breweries overall, but we've got a long ways to go. For comparison sakes, here's Mother's Brewing numbers: 63,381 check-ins total, over 3,000 a month. That's just 1 brewery. We've got a ways to go. Start drinking!

Arkansas Untappd, Revisited
So I figured it was time to revisit my favorite app, Untappd, for stats from my favorite state, Arkansas. Interesting developments? Well, Diamond Bear became the first state brewery to top 10,000 check-ins. Core had more check-ins over the last month than anyone, and a newcomer entered the fray with a solid start of 65 check-ins in just over a week. But I'm getting ahead of myself! Let's start with the totals from last month

Arkansas Untappd, Ranking the State's Check-ins
So for the hell of it I've compiled a list of some of Arkansas' breweries to compare how many check-ins they've had on Untappd since it's inception. Keep in mind, some of these haven't even been open a year yet and some have only had a small amount of beer available. But regardless, here's how the state's current production breweries stack up as of 8/15/2014. Of note... Boscos included Memphis' numbers so I left them off. Several more breweries to be added in the next 6 months as well it seems. But for now...
