Quick Sip Clip: Lupu-Luau IPA

Dogfish Head: "The story of Lupu-Luau began when Sam was hanging outside with co-workers during an overly-sunny day. One present co-worker in particular was lacking heavily in the melanin department, to put it lightly. A friendly joke about a total tan aversion led to this legendary comment, “You can say it, Sam, I’m pale as f**k.” The brewer in Sam thought that would make a cool name for a super pale beer. From there the wheels started turning and the iterative R&D process began.

Sam set out to make a hazy, overly pale beer but the test batches weren’t quite there yet. However, during that process he found out how great coconuts work in an IPA and decided that the new goal was to make an IPA using as much coconut as possible. We started with a combination of Pils malt with flaked barley, rolled oats, and malted and raw wheat to get it all hazy. Then we introduced coconuts three ways by adding toasted coconut, dehydrated coconut water and an experimental hop variety that provides a unique coconut & woody aroma.

The result? A lupulin-loaded, coconut-centric ale. Our Lupu-Luau IPA!"

Stone Scorpion Bowl IPA

Stone Brewing: "To create a recipe so tropical and fruity without the addition of fruit was no feat our team of brewers would leave up to the gods. They took floral and citrus notes from Mosaic, Loral and Mandarina Bavaria hops to dish up a mouthwatering fruit punch to the palate. Get deserted on your own island or share with others. One thing is for sure: there is no need to light this one. It is already on fire."

Oskar Blues Brewery Adjusts Pricing on G'Knight Imperial Red IPA

LONGMONT, Colo., - Feb. 7, 2018 - Say G’Day as G’Knight Imperial Red IPA joins Oskar Blues’ core priced line-up as the latest addition to reach the SRP of $8.99 to $9.99 six-pack pricing. This big, sticky imperial red IPA joins their array of beers now available at core pricing including the Original Craft Beer in a Can, Dale’s Pale Ale; along with Mama’s Little Yella Pils, Old Chub, Beerito, Pinner, and Oskar Blues IPA.

First canned in 2005, this behemoth of a beer pays liquid tribute to Gordon Knight, a Colorado craft beer pioneer and decorated Vietnam vet who died in 2002 fighting a massive wildfire outside of the brewery's hometown of Lyons, CO. Great American Beer Festival medal-winning G’Knight Imperial Red IPA (8.7% ABV, 60 IBUs) is a hefty, dry hopped imperial red IPA with a nose full of aroma, a sticky mouthfeel, a malty middle, and mighty hop flavors. It sports a surprisingly smooth finish for a beer of its size.

“Gordon inspired everyone with his passion for life and crafting challenging beer flavors that really pushed the limits of hops in those early days. I still remember the day I met him, riding my bike between jobs in Boulder I rolled past a storage unit Gordon was brewing beer in. It was the first time I realized people do this for a living and I knew this was what I wanted to do,” said Dale Katechis, Soul Founder of Oskar Blues Brewery.

In the early 1990’s, Knight created breweries that would help define and influence today’s robust Colorado craft beer scene, including High Country (which later became Estes Park), Twisted Pine, and Wolf Tongue. Knight won Great American Beer Festival gold medals at three breweries he started, including a gold for High Country Brewery’s Renegade Red IPA. Knight would’ve turned 68 on February 20th of this month.

“We want to get G’Knight & Gordon’s legacy into more craft beer drinkers’ hands while we hoist one back and celebrate a true craft beer pioneer,” Katechis said. As the can says, “If you knew the man behind this tribute, this dry-hopped ale needs no explanation. If you didn’t, we’re sorry.” Read more about the life and craft beer legacy of Gordon Knight here: www.N3978Y.com

Core priced G’Knight Imperial Red IPA is available in the iconic kelly green 12oz. six-pack cans and draft in national retail locations. Find Oskar Blues beer via https://www.oskarblues.com/beerfinder/.

Shiner Bock Super Bowl Commercial

Here's the Shiner Bock commercial that ran during the Super Bowl this year, called "Ice Cold Welcome". I was pretty proud of this for them as Shiner Bock was really my "gateway" beer into the craft beer world and I still drink it fairly regularly. I'll actually be in Austin next weekend and will probably partake in a few then, possibly in a bar that looks like the one in this commercial. Who knows.

"Texans have been dancing and drinkin’ Shiner Bock since 1909. Some just happen to be a little better at it than others."

Todd Haug / Stone "Saurer Axtmann"

Stone Brewing:"Have guitar, will travel. Check. Have mash paddle, will travel. Check. Have invitation to Berlin to brew, will travel. Hell yeah. Cue our friend Todd Haug. He checked all those boxes and joined us to make this inspired and unique creation. Our Stone Berlin Brewmaster Thomas Tyrell has spent many years studying and brewing versions of the consummate Berlin style, the Berliner Weisse. Todd was intrigued with the idea of überizing (wasn't a real word before, but it is now) the style and wanted to further überize (how quickly a new word can find its way into the lexicon) with the addition of ginger root and Citrus Hystrix leaf. They worked perfectly, as you'll see. Todd, Thomas and Greg all agreed they'd never tasted anything quite like it before, and that they all loved it. So now, it has traveled time and space to you. Check it!"
